CINCINNATI - OhioPen -- The Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio has launched its annual fundraising campaign to support its mission of ending generational poverty by helping individuals build careers, grow businesses, accumulate wealth, and lead in their communities.
For nearly 80 years, the League has delivered results through workforce development, entrepreneurial support at every level, leadership development, comprehensive financial empowerment, including homeownership preparation, credit improvement, investing, and long-term wealth-building and reentry services.
"Even as economic conditions shift, we've stayed focused on what we do best, helping people build stable careers, strengthen their finances, and create a path to long-term success," said Christie Kuhns, Esq., President & CEO of the Urban League. "This campaign is about sustaining the work that's changing lives every day and ensuring we're ready for whatever challenges come next."
Earlier this year, the League engaged residents across the region to better understand what security and support mean to them. The feedback was clear: people are navigating not only financial pressures, but also challenges related to health, housing, and safety. In response, the League is deepening its work in community resilience, equipping families with the tools to prepare for and recover from economic shocks, health crises, and other disruptions.

"The most effective solutions come from listening first," said Kuhns. "People didn't just talk about income; they talked about stability, access, and a sense of control over their future. That's the kind of resilience we're building."
From first jobs to first homes, and from second chances to startup success, the Urban League meets people where they are and helps move them forward—supporting individuals at every stage of their journey.
"This campaign is an invitation to invest in what works," said Janice Liebenberg, SVP of Development. "Together, we can scale impact and strengthen our region."
The campaign runs from June 12 to August 8, 2025. Contributions can be made at https://donate.ulgso.org/.
