Offering Same ~ Cincinnati-based healthcare provider LiverRight™ has recently announced the opening of their LiverRight Hepatology Clinic, which will provide clinical care for patients with liver disease. This clinic is the first National Virtual Clinic for liver disease in the United States, offering video visits for adult patients who require a diagnosis or have already been diagnosed with any hepatology condition.
According to LiverRight's co-founder and CEO Brandon Tudor, approximately 80 million individuals in the U.S. are affected by some form of liver disease, but only 5 million have been formally diagnosed. The LiverRight Clinic aims to speed up access to care for these patients by tenfold, compared to the current state. This means that patients from all fifty states will be able to receive timely and efficient treatment.
Tudor also emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for liver disease, as it can lead to serious complications such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. He stated that liver disease can also be a sign of other underlying medical conditions that need to be addressed. The ultimate goal of LiverRight is to significantly reduce the time it takes for patients to receive a diagnosis and begin treatment.

One particular group that faces challenges in accessing care for liver disease is those living with "metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease" (MASLD), previously known as "Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease" (NAFLD). This condition affects around 30% of adults in the U.S. and is the leading cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer among women, and the second leading cause among men.
The more severe stage of MASLD, known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), was previously called NASH. Additionally, millions of Americans are living with viral hepatitis, which causes inflammation of the liver.
A study published in Hepatology on January 6th, 2025 by Filip Obradović et al of Northwestern University, compared the costs of cirrhosis to other chronic diseases. The results showed that patients with cirrhosis had 21.7% higher overall costs, 13.1% higher medical costs, and 59.0% higher pharmaceutical costs per patient-month compared to patients with heart failure.
The total cost for cirrhosis was found to be $3,032 per patient-month, with the majority of the cost going towards inpatient medical care. This highlights the financial burden that liver disease can have on individuals and the healthcare system.

LiverRight is a proud member of the Second Cohort in the Venture Velocity Program from Cintrifuse, a Cincinnati-based organization that supports entrepreneurship and innovation in the region. J.B. Kropp, CEO of Cintrifuse and Managing Director of Cintrifuse Capital, expressed excitement about LiverRight joining their program and praised their innovative approach to tackling liver disease through a virtual clinic.
The LiverRight Virtual Clinic will not only diagnose patients but also provide ongoing care for all forms of liver disease in adults. The clinic's providers will prescribe necessary diagnostics such as blood tests and imaging studies, as well as guide patients through lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise. Medications specific to viral hepatitis and MASLD will also be prescribed when needed.
With LiverRight's dedication to improving access to care for those with liver disease and their partnership with Cintrifuse, it is hoped that more individuals will receive timely diagnosis and treatment for this often under-diagnosed condition.
