~ The City of Akron and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) have invited the public to provide comments regarding the proposed rehabilitation of the Bowery Street bridge in Downtown Akron. The bridge spans over the Ohio Canal and Cascade Parking Plaza, and the project includes partial bridge deck replacement, as well as replacement of sidewalks, parapet, and fencing. Additionally, bridge approach and abutment replacement will be done.

Environmental studies are ongoing; however, impacts are unlikely. No right-of-way is anticipated to be needed for the project. Relocation of some utilities may be required.

A vehicular detour is anticipated during construction, with west bound vehicles being rerouted down S. Main Street, to State Street, to W. Bowery Street and reverse for east bound vehicles. Temporary walkways around the work area will be provided for pedestrians if needed. All access to properties will be maintained throughout construction which is scheduled to begin fall of 2024 and last approximately 24 months.
