City of Akron Press Release

Published: 09-29-2022
Akron, Ohio, Sept. 29, 2022 — On Saturday, October 1, 2022 Mayor Horrigan will once again open applications for the Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Grant Program. The City has already approved over $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funded grants to 15 local organizations working to prevent violence from occurring, stop the progression of violence, and rehabilitate individuals with a history of violent behavior.
In this next round of funding, the City is looking to fund programs working in the following areas:
"The issue that most residents in our community rank as their number one concern is safety," said Mayor Dan Horrigan. "Combatting violence is not a one size fits all solution. By taking a holistic approach to address the systemic causes of violence we can start to make a real, sustainable difference in our community. The organizations we've been able to fund through the VIP Grant Program are already making an impact through after school programming, re-entry support for juveniles, job training, recreational opportunities, and more. I look forward to helping support another group of grass-roots organizations who are already doing the core work of engaging our youth."
