CINCINNATI, Sept. 23, 2025 ~ The VIA Character Strengths Survey, a scientific tool used to uncover the best in people, has recently released its 2025 VIA Survey Impact Study. This study, conducted by the nonprofit VIA Institute on Character, confirms the survey's ability to improve lives and inspire positive action.
With over 35 million participants worldwide and available in 46 languages, the VIA Character Strengths Survey is the most widely used scientific tool of its kind. It is backed by more than 1,000 peer-reviewed studies across various fields such as psychology, education, healthcare, and organizational science. The survey evaluates 24 character strengths that are scientifically linked to resilience, optimism, and well-being.
The 2025 Impact Study focused on a group of 3,000 participants and found that the VIA Survey experience itself was both meaningful and transformative. A staggering 83% of participants reported that discovering their character strengths was a meaningful experience. Additionally, 74% gained greater self-awareness and over half reported feeling more optimistic about life. The study also showed that nearly half of the participants experienced an increase in overall well-being.

What sets this study apart from previous ones is its examination of post-survey behavior. The findings revealed that those who completed the VIA Survey were five times more likely to take positive action such as sharing their results with others or pursuing further training. These actions resulted in clear benefits for mental health, resilience, and self-perception.
Dr. Neal Mayerson, Founder, Chairman, and Interim CEO of the VIA Institute on Character stated that for over a century psychology has focused on diagnosing what's wrong with people but with the VIA Classification of strengths they have shifted their focus to identifying what's right with people. He believes that this approach has led to human flourishing on a global scale.
The study also looked at how participants' behavior changed three months after completing the survey. Results showed that over half felt more confident using their strengths in daily life and handling challenges and problems. Additionally, 63% noticed a positive shift in how they think about themselves and 50% reported feeling more grateful.

It has been used in various settings such as Ivy League universities and grassroots nonprofits. Dr. Ryan Niemiec, VIA's Chief Science & Education Officer, shared that they have received countless stories of how the survey has helped individuals through difficult situations such as relationship crises, career burnout, and mental health struggles.
The survey is self-administered online and takes only 10-12 minutes to complete. It evaluates all 24 character strengths and has a broad range of applications including therapy, coaching, education, and workplace development. Its widespread use has made it a cornerstone tool for promoting mental health and human flourishing globally.
In conclusion, the 2025 VIA Survey Impact Study confirms the measurable power of the VIA Character Strengths Survey to improve lives and inspire positive action. With its ability to uncover what's best in people and promote human flourishing on a global scale, it is no surprise that it is the most widely used scientific tool of its kind.
