Key Occupational Changes Reflect Evolution of Technology Industry

PHOENIX - OhioPen -- The Arizona Technology Council today released its Q2 2025 Arizona Technology Industry Impact Report, highlighting continued momentum across the state's high-tech ecosystem. The report shows strong growth in semiconductor manufacturing, major advancements in sustainable operations and significant workforce development initiatives designed to prepare Arizonans for the jobs of the future.

Despite these improvements, there was steep employment decline in several legacy industry roles, such as computer network support specialists (-55%), telecommunications equipment installers (-36%) and computer systems analysts (-27%). These drops reflect continued innovation in automation and outsourcing, which are shifting industry needs.

"Arizona is experiencing an unprecedented wave of technology investment that is transforming our economy and our communities," said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Council and SciTech Institute. "From groundbreaking water conservation projects to expanded internship opportunities, our companies are not only building chips and infrastructure but also cultivating the talent and sustainable practices that will ensure Arizona remains a global leader in innovation."

Other notable findings in the Q2 2025 report include:
  • Technology industry gross regional product for 2023-2024 was up $5 billion, growing faster than the $4.6 billion for 2022-2023.
  • Telecom and repair roles are losing ground. Besides roles for telecommunications equipment installers, shrinking fast were jobs for computer, ATM and office machine repairers (-32%) as wireless technology advances and device replacement outpaced repair.
  • Software remained a stable anchor. Maintaining steady growth were core roles like software developers (18%) and web/digital designers (17%).
In addition to industry data, the report features company announcements, workforce development updates and investment news that provide deeper insights into the Arizona technology landscape.
