New trustees Abbie Voorhees, CPA and Cheyenne Caton bring expertise in finance, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement as People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos expands its reach to new audiences across the tri-state region.

PRINCETON, N.J. - OhioPen -- People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos (P&S/GyC), the nonprofit organization dedicated to building community through literature and guided discussion, is pleased to announce the appointment of Abigail "Abbie" Voorhees, CPA, of Morrisville, PA, and Cheyenne Caton of Langhorne, PA, to its Board of Trustees.

The addition of these two accomplished professionals comes at an important moment as People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos enters its 54th year of service to communities across the region.

"We are thrilled to welcome both Abbie and Cheyenne to the Board. Each brings her unique background and experience to People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos, which will make our organization stronger and better prepared for the future.

Abbie, with her professional accounting and CPA background, will help us continue to stay financially sound and focused, while Cheyenne brings years of expertise in nonprofit development. I look forward to working with both of them!" said Board Chair Charley Busuttil, recently.

Abbie Voorhees said she was drawn to the organization because of "the role that literature and shared discussion play in building connection and community," and looks forward to supporting People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos in a practical, hands-on way through her nonprofit audit and financial oversight experience.

Cheyenne Caton shared that she believes deeply in "the transformative value of this work" and in the organization's commitment to "the kind of second chances this program extends to its participants every single day."

"As we enter our 54th year, we remain deeply committed to creating spaces where literature encourages reflection, connection, dignity, and belonging," said Executive Director Debra Lampert-Rudman. Founded by Sarah Hirschman in 1972, People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos brings people together for professionally facilitated discussions of short stories and poetry in both English and Spanish. Using its trademarked literary engagement methodology, the organization creates welcoming spaces where participants are encouraged to reflect, connect, and share their voices through literature and guided discussion.

Programs serve older adults, immigrants, those in transition, individuals in recovery, justice-involved populations, and others with limited access to cultural and educational opportunities. In partnership with libraries, senior residences, schools, social service agencies, recovery programs, shelters, correctional settings, and community organizations across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York, People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos fosters connection, dignity, transformation, and belonging through shared literary experiences and conversation.
