~ Columbus, OH - Mayor Andrew J. Ginther has announced the appointment of Kym Douglas as the new director of the city's Department of Neighborhoods. Mayor Ginther expressed his confidence in Douglas, stating that she is an experienced and proven public servant with a strong track record of leading teams and achieving results at both the state and local levels. He also commended her for her willingness to roll up her sleeves and facilitate honest conversations for the betterment of the communities she serves.

Douglas brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously worked at the Maryland Stadium Authority where she spearheaded workforce development initiatives, formed successful partnerships with state and local governments, led community engagement efforts for a tri-county redevelopment project, and strengthened internal capacity for additional functions.

Prior to this, she served as deputy chief of staff for the mayor's office in Baltimore and held various positions in state agencies in both Maryland and Ohio. Douglas began her career in government as a legislative analyst for Columbus City Council.

Expressing her excitement about returning to her professional roots in Columbus, Douglas stated that she is eager to use her skills and knowledge gained from working with the State of Ohio and Maryland to uplift neighborhoods across the city. She also hopes to serve as a bridge between residents and city staff.

Douglas holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Fort Valley State University and a Masters of Applied Politics from the University of Akron.

Her first day with the city is set for early September. This appointment marks an important step towards promoting community engagement and addressing concerns within Columbus neighborhoods under Mayor Ginther's leadership.
