~ Residents of Cuyahoga Falls and Boston Township in Akron, Ohio were impacted by a water main break on Akron Peninsula Road near Bath Road early this morning. The break caused reduced water pressures for nearly 150 customers in the area, resulting in the City of Akron Water Supply Bureau issuing a boil water advisory.
The advisory affects customers on, within or adjacent to Akron Peninsula Road north of Bath Road, Steels Corners Road West, Towpath Blvd., Deepwood Drive, Smokerise Drive, Laurel Valley Drive, Deepridge Drive and Circle, Bolanz Road, Riverview Road between Bolanz and Everett, Everett Road, Oak Hill Road and Major Road from Everett Road to Stine Road. Major customers in the affected area include Blossom Music Center, Towpath Village subdivision, KB Energy site and portions of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice but for a minimum of 18 to 24 hours after repairs are made and normal pressures are restored. As a precautionary measure all customers within this area are advised to boil their water before use for drinking or cooking for at least two minutes.
The loss of pressure may also cause additional disruptions in water quality including discolored water and/or potentially a temporary increase in lead levels in the drinking water. To reduce possible lead exposure in drinking water residents should run their tap until there is a noticeable temperature drop before using it for drinking or cooking; use cold water for cooking; and clean their faucet aerator regularly.
A press release will be issued when the boil water advisory is lifted. Residents can contact the Akron 24/7 Water Distribution Dispatch at 330-375-2420 for further updates or visit drinktap.org or www.epa.gov/safewater/lead for additional information.
