~ The City of Akron is set to begin its leaf removal program on Monday, October 30 in Ward 5. Residents of the various wards should expect signs to be posted prior to their scheduled pick-up date. The City is offering three free curb service bulk pick-ups per year for those who wish to have their leaves removed before or after their scheduled pick-up date.
The leaf removal schedule is as follows: Ward 5 on October 30, Ward 3 on November 1, Ward 6 on November 3, Ward 10 on November 7, Ward 4 on November 10, Ward 8 on November 16, Ward 2 on November 25, Ward 1 on November 29 and Ward 7 and 9 on December 2 and 6 respectively.
Residents are asked to adhere to certain guidelines in order for the leaf removal process to be safe and effective. These include not allowing children to play in leaves near the street, not placing branches or any other debris in the street (only leaves), not raking leaves into the street after removal has taken place (subject to a fine) and not parking vehicles over piles of leaves (heat from the underside of the vehicle may cause a fire).

Leaves should be raked within two feet of the curb the day before scheduled collection in order to prevent them from collecting in storm sewers. All wards will take more than one day to complete and residents should have their leaves out by the date listed or they may not get picked up. The schedule is subject to change due to adverse weather conditions and any changes will be posted on social media channels and the leaf removal page of the City website.
