City of Akron Press Release
From the desk of City of Akron Press Office
Published: 01-16-2022
Akron, Ohio, January 16, 2022 — The City of Akron has issued a snow emergency parking ban starting at 8:00 PM tonight and continuing until further notice in advance of the approaching winter storm. The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the City of Akron and Summit County that is in effect from 7:00 PM tonight until 7:00 AM Monday morning for heavy snowfall with forecast accumulations of 3-6 inches.
As part of Mayor Horrigan and Akron City Council's five-point improvement strategy, earlier notification of parking bans was recommended to increase public participation in getting their vehicles off the street to facilitate the snow and ice control operations increasing both the efficiency and effectiveness of these operations. The ability to pre-treat the full roadway widths before the event and continue treating the full roadway during and after the event will allow us to complete our objectives of getting as many streets opened and cleared as quickly as possible. This will also facilitate our trash and recycling operations during these challenging weather conditions. With the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Holiday on Monday, the normal collections will be delayed a day this week.
