City of Akron Announces Plans for Fourth of July Weekend

~ The City of Akron is gearing up for its Fourth of July celebrations, with the return of the Rib, White, and Blue Festival and fireworks displays throughout the city.

Mayor Dan Horrigan and Lock 3 announced the plans on June 8th, 2023. The Rib, White, and Blue Festival will run from Friday, June 30th to Tuesday, July 4th from 11am-11pm each day in Lock 3. The festival will feature national rib vendors competing for awards such as Best Ribs, Best Sauce and People's Choice Awards. Local vendors such as After Hours BBQ, PigFoot BBQ, Grill Masters, Stray Dog Trucks, Homemade Delites and more will also be present. Admission is free but no outside food or drinks are permitted with exception of the DORA.

Parking at City of Akron decks including State St Parking Deck and Cascade Parking Deck will be free from 6 pm Friday June 30th until 12am Monday July 3rd. Regular rates will apply on Monday July 3rd but parking will be free again on July 4th. Motorcycle parking is available on Quaker St., enter from Ash St.

Nightly concerts will take place on the Lock 3 Cleveland Clinic Stage located on W. Bowery St., next to The Akron Civic Theatre beginning at 7pm each night. Concerts include Draw The Line– The Endorsed Aerosmith Tribute with Lady Lyre (Friday), Straight On-Heart Tribute with Angie Haze Project (Saturday), EU (Experience Unlimited) with Akron's Real Deal (Sunday), Hotel California – The Original Eagles Tribute Band with The TwistOffs (Monday) and Wanted–Bon Jovi Tribute with Wishgarden (Tuesday).

The festival culminates on Tuesday July 4th with a downtown fireworks display set to launch after the conclusion of the Akron RubberDucks game at approximately 9:45pm. Other neighborhood fireworks displays will be launched from Patterson Park Sports Complex and the Akron Executive Airport at 9:45pm as well. Residents are reminded that it is not legal in city limits to set off commercial or consumer grade fireworks without a permit according to ordinance 150-2022 passed last year by Akron City Council.
