City of Akron Press Release
From the desk of Ellen Lander Nischt
Published: 06-29-2020
Akron, Ohio, June 29, 2020 – Today, the City of Akron has announced a new collaboration with Akron Children's Hospital to give Akron families a fun jump-start to summer. Akron Children's is the exclusive sponsor of the youth wellness program titled "Jump into a Healthy Summer."
The program will kick off the first week of July. Akron Children's Hospital is providing 750 activity bags to children aged 5-12 who live in the City of Akron to keep them active through the summer months. Items in the bags will include classic summer items such as frisbees, jump ropes, beach balls, cones, chalk, and water bottles. The items can be used to play traditional summer games like hopscotch, frisbee tag and relay races, or families can tap into some creative thinking and invent new games and activities with their own rules. Each bag will also contain items for parents such as COVID-19 health information including face covering, strip thermometer, hot/cold packs and hand sanitizer. The activity bags are free. To register, please visit Lock3Live.com.

"Akron Children's Hospital is very excited to team up with the City of Akron to sponsor the 'Jump into a Healthy Summer Program,'" said Grace Wakulchik, Chief Executive Officer of Akron Children's. "Summer is officially here and we hope to see kids and families outside, enjoying the sun, their backyards, and our wonderful park systems. We want kids to have fun with their play and it's actually a lesson for life as leading an active lifestyle is one of the easiest and best ways to stay healthy no matter your age."
"This exciting activity bag, generously sponsored by Akron Children's, gives our kids the chance to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and have fun with their families this summer," said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. "While all our recreation plans look a little different this year, staying active and healthy is just as important now as ever; and this new program helps Akron kids and their families stay safe and active in their own yard or neighborhood."
In addition to the activity bags, each Wednesday in July, Lock3 will also feature a video on their social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) promoting healthy living and safe summer fun.
