WASHINGTON, July 22, 2025 ~ The nationwide strike against Airgas, led by the Teamsters, has expanded to include over 15 facilities in 11 states. The strike, which began with Airgas Teamsters in Cleveland and New Jersey, has now spread to California, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

According to Juan Campos, Director of the Teamsters Tankhaul Division and Teamsters International Vice President At-Large, the expansion of the strike could have been avoided if Airgas had bargained in good faith. However, the company's failure to treat their workers with dignity and respect has led to this escalation.

Airgas is facing multiple unfair labor practice charges and has refused to engage in meaningful negotiations for months. In a concerning turn of events last week, unidentified chemical agents were released on picketing Teamsters in Peoria, Illinois and Oakland, New Jersey. These incidents appear to be a deliberate attempt to intimidate and harm workers who are lawfully exercising their rights.

Despite these attempts at intimidation, Shawn Diaz from Local 701 in New Jersey states that the workers are not backing down. With over 20 years of experience as an Airgas filler and a shop steward for his local union chapter, Diaz is confident that they will win the fair contract they deserve.

In addition to expanded picket lines across the country, Teamsters Local 996 in Honolulu is also preparing to strike due to Airgas's ongoing unfair labor practices. As a subsidiary of French multinational company Air Liquide with reported profits of over $3.8 billion last year alone, Airgas is facing a major disruption to its operations as more and more Teamsters join the fight.

Robert Schuller from Local 507 in Cleveland emphasizes that it's time for this multibillion-dollar company to take their demands seriously. With support from their fellow Teamsters across the country and Hawaii ready to join the fight, the workers are determined to see this through until a fair contract is put on the table.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, represents 1.3 million hardworking individuals in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. As the strike continues to gain momentum, it is clear that the Teamsters are not backing down until their demands are met.
