CLEVELAND - OhioPen -- Public Rail Now has released a statement and launched a national letter campaign to oppose the restructuring plan announced by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). The directive would reorganize Amtrak into a holding company overseeing separate corporate entities responsible for infrastructure, fleet, and operations.
Public Rail Now warns that such a restructuring could weaken the unified national passenger rail system and open the door to reduced public investment and eventual privatization.
"We believe this proposal raises serious concerns about the future of public passenger rail in the United States," said Adam Barrington, National Organizer with Public Rail Now. "Amtrak should be strengthened and fully funded—not broken apart into separate corporate structures that could undermine workers, passengers, and the long-term stability of the system."

Amtrak currently employs roughly 18,000 union workers and provides essential transportation connections for communities across the country. Public Rail Now contends that restructuring could threaten union jobs, reduce service quality, and distract from the real priority—expanding and investing in passenger rail.
Public Rail Now is urging railroad workers, passengers, and members of the public to speak out and defend Amtrak's public mission.
