The independent feature directed by Crystal J. Huang earns festival recognition as the film continues to reach audiences through theatrical screenings and streaming platforms.
LOS ANGELES & SAN FRANCISCO - OhioPen -- Filmmaker Crystal J. Huang has received festival recognition as her feature film The Ritual House won Best Horror Feature at the Golden State Film Festival.
The recognition highlights the growing visibility of genre films produced outside the traditional studio system.
Directed and produced by Huang, The Ritual House was created with a production budget of under $50,000, demonstrating how filmmakers can bring a theatrical-quality film to audiences through careful planning, visual storytelling, and a dedicated small team.
"Independent filmmaking often requires creativity not only in storytelling but also in how a film is produced," Huang said. "This project shows that with determination and collaboration, it is possible to bring a theatrical feature to life even with limited resources."

The project was produced by Boonie Publishing LLC and Unchaseable LLC.
The project previously screened at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, marking a notable milestone for the independent production.
The Ritual House tells the story of a mysterious home connected to a dark past, where hidden secrets begin to surface as new residents move in. Combining psychological tension with atmospheric imagery, the film explores themes of memory, family history, and the unseen forces that linger in forgotten places.
Huang is known for visually driven storytelling and has worked across multiple creative disciplines as a filmmaker, performer, and producer. Her earlier feature film Dark Feathers: Dance of the Geisha explored themes of identity and cultural mythology through a stylized narrative.
The horror feature continues to attract attention from audiences interested in atmospheric genre films and micro-budget theatrical productions.
