Ohio Business Owner to Speak at The 2019 Florida Conference on Aging

Gurwell, a retired Ohio State Trooper, founded Keeping Us Safe in 2008 to develop and provide services to help concerned family members address concerns about an aging parent's physical and/or cognitive diminishment in driving skills.

CLEVELAND - OhioPen -- Matt Gurwell, founder of Keeping Us Safe, will provide valuable information to caregivers on the topic of older drivers with diminished skills at the 2019 Florida Conference on Aging scheduled for August 19-21 in Orlando, Florida.

Gurwell, a retired Ohio State Trooper, founded Keeping Us Safe in 2008 to develop and provide services to help concerned family members address concerns about an aging parent's physical and/or cognitive diminishment in driving skills.  As well, Gurwell is the developer of the "Enhanced Self-Assessment Program" for older drivers, author of "Beyond Driving with Dignity: The workbook for the families of older drivers" and a national speaker on this very sensitive topic.

Gurwell's presentation, titled "Driving Under the Influence of Dementia", will focus on the role dementia, memory and executive functioning play in older driver safety. Current-day, real-life examples as well as academic studies that confirm the correlation between cognitive decline and older driver safety will be presented.  Additionally, tips will be presented to attendees on how to have the difficult driving conversation.

The 2019 Florida Conference on Aging is presented in partnership with the Florida Council on Aging, the Florida Association of Aging Services Providers, and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.  The 3-day event will be held at the Hyatt Regency, located at 9801 International Drive, Orlando, Florida.
