Zen Bee Meadery's Mara Ume Wins Best of Show National Honey Board Mead Competition

COLUMBUS, Ohio - OhioPen -- Zen Bee Meadery of Columbus, Ohio has taken home the top prize in the National Honey Board's annual Mead Crafters Competition. The winning mead was inspired by Japanese plum wine and the judges said they were impressed with the mead's ability to balance both fruit flavors and still showcase the essence of the honey used in making the mead.

Mead which is essentially Honey Wine is a growing market."The mead category continues to gain popularity from beer, spirits and wine drinkers looking for something different, and we're proud to host this competition and recognize some of the best in the industry," Said Catherine Barry, National Honey Board's director of marketing. The competition featured over 300 entries from commercial meaderies in the United States.
