New over ~ Reese Pharmaceutical, a leading manufacturer of over-the-counter (OTC) branded and private label products, has announced the launch of its new Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) for colon cancer screening. The test, called ColoTest®, is now available at 3,700 Walmart locations across the United States.
ColoTest® is an FDA-cleared test that detects hidden blood in the stool, which can be an early indicator of colon cancer or other gastrointestinal disorders such as colitis, diverticulitis, and polyps. It was first introduced in February 2024 and is now widely available in retail stores as well as online at Walmart.com. Consumers can also use the store locator on mycolotest.com to find the nearest location.
According to recent statistics from the American Cancer Society, colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., with rates increasing among younger adults. The report also states that there has been a significant rise in colorectal cancer diagnoses among adults under 55 years old compared to a decade ago. In fact, colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer deaths in men under 50 and second in women under 50.

While colonoscopies are considered the gold standard for screening for colorectal cancer, many people do not become eligible for this procedure until they reach age 45. Other barriers to colonoscopy may include fear of the procedure, lack of insurance coverage or inadequate insurance coverage for the test. This is where ColoTest® comes in as a highly accurate and discreet alternative that can be used by anyone at home without a prescription.
Jeffrey Reese, President of Reese Pharmaceutical stated, "With colon cancer rates on the rise, it is crucial to address barriers to screening. ColoTest® offers a convenient and affordable option for individuals to screen for invisible blood in their stool – a key warning sign for colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal abnormalities. We are proud to make this important tool available to Walmart customers, significantly expanding its accessibility and the opportunity for more Americans to get screened for this often deadly cancer."

Using ColoTest® is simple – users place a sheet of paper from the kit over the toilet, collect a sample using the provided tube, follow the instructions on the cassette, and wait for a reaction. Results can appear in as little as one minute. If the test results are positive, individuals are advised to contact their doctor for further testing, such as a colonoscopy.
For more information on ColoTest®, interested individuals can visit Reese Pharmaceutical's website. The company has been in the pharmaceutical industry for over 100 years and offers a wide range of products including cough and cold remedies, digestive care products, family planning items, feminine health products, and first aid supplies. ColoTest® received FDA clearance in September 2023.
